The Adventure

Splendid trails for bicycles, the the Vercingétorix trails for motorbikes, all centered on a comfortable bivouac on the banks of the Allier!

vent open to MOTORCYCLES (trails / maxi-trails / electric / sidecars) & BIKES (gravel / mountain bike / electric mountain bike) - Registration opens 2024: 02/02/2024 at 8:30 p.m.

What do you mean about bikes AND motorcycles?

To reassure everyone from the outset: the bike tracks offered are very distinct from the motorcycle tracks every day!
For the rest, there are always only 2 wheels, there is balance, fun, discussions about tires, discovery, sharing, solidarity... In short, a multitude of common points that you can discuss together (or not!) on the bivouac.
S' it may surprise you, the marriage of the motorcycle world and the cycling world is great, humanly enriching and generates great encounters!

The bivouac

The bivouac is set up for the 3 days in the Langeac campsite in Haute-Loire, along the Allier. Whether you are in a tent, in a van, in a camper van, you have what you need to settle comfortably while keeping your vehicles and trailers close to you.
Breakfasts and dinners are taken under the organization's marquees and provided by our catering partner Chris&Co. Apart from water, drinks are not included, a refreshment bar at good prices is available.
The Cocoricorando staff is present and available all weekend to welcome you and guide you, an electric stand allows you to recharge your devices (GPS, smartphone, VAE battery) and our osteopath will get you back on track if necessary!

The program

If the event begins on Friday morning, it is possible and even recommended to arrive on site to settle in on Thursday at the end of the afternoon.
Every morning breakfast is offered from 7:00 a.m. followed by the briefing at 8:30 a.m. The starts are given immediately after the briefing, regulated and organized separately between bicycles and motorcycles. By motorbike or by bike, if all goes well you have left for a good day of riding and are back at the end of the afternoon.

Rock'n'Trail = Vercingétorix !

Regarding participation in trail or maxi-trail motorcycles, the Rock'n'Trail is none other than the famous "Vercingétorix" which has been crisscrossing the paths and small picturesque roads of Auvergne for 8 years. Now installed in cloverleaf in Haute-Loire, the event will change its name in 2023 to mark the arrival of bicycles.

For what types of motorcycles?

The Rock'n'Trail motorcycle version is aimed first and foremost at maxi-trails, therefore large machines with large displacements and great comfort. The trails are also perfectly suitable. It is also possible with lighter motorcycles of small displacement or enduro type, provided of course that you remain in total compliance with the Regulations (particularly concerning the noise of the machine!) but it is much less suitable and less in the 'spirit. “Vintages”, sidecars and electric motorcycles are also welcome!

What does the course look like?

ou have the choice between 2 mixed courses (road/path) and a 100% road course: the "Adventure" course bypasses the biggest difficulties to stay on rolling and easy paths, accessible even for the first laps of the offroad wheels, the "Extreme" course offers some additional sensations without being inaccessible, and the 100% bitumen course which generally serves as a fallback solution in the event of fatigue or bad weather.
Note that the tracks of the Rock'n'Trail 2024 are largely inspired by the 2023 edition.

How to follow the route?

Navigation is done independently using GPS.
The Tripy GPS electronic road book reader is ideally suited to this type of trip, and is available for rental as an option upon registration.
You receive the 3 tracks one week before the big day (in standard GPX and TRB format for Tripy owners), which allows you during the event to move from one to the other as you wish, it is not there is no constraint.
Registering for the Rock'n'Trail commits you to respecting the Highway Code, the route taking roads and paths open to traffic.

I have a motorcycle AND an E-MTB...

Do you ride a motorcycle (trail or maxi-trail) and also practice e-MTB? => Come with the 2 vehicles and do whatever you want on site during the 3 days!
"Hey, it's raining, I'm going to take the bike today instead..."
"I did motorbike yesterday, I will finish by motorbike on Sunday, today I am going to try the big VTTAE loop!"
"After 2 splendid motorbike days, this one does not want to start this morning... Fortunately I took the bike to finish in style!”

What types of bicycles ?

The Rock'n'Trail trails are perfect for "cross country" or "all mountain" e-MTBs. To use our Cocoricorando jargon, their “Adventure” version is also perfectly suited to GRAVELS. “Enduros” should be avoided and road or purely downhill bikes should be forgotten. If participation is possible by muscle bike, electric assistance is strongly recommended given the fairly significant cumulative elevation changes each day, provided they are approved for the road of course.

What does the course look like?

The Rock'n'Trail bike version is primarily focused on hiking, so it's a ride that will help you discover a magnificent region, at your own pace and without great technical difficulty, apart from a certain physical challenge. The routes are mainly made up of rolling paths (mainly gravel, dirt, grass) connected to small picturesque roads. However, it is not excluded to encounter a slightly more "fun" passage and a few "single tracks" here and there.

For each of the 3 days several kilometer versions are offered on the same loop, you can therefore personalize and above all improvise along the way.
The wild beauty of the Haute-Loire being closely linked to its relief, there is inevitably altitude difference, even if it never goes very high in altitude. You have to count between 1000 and 2000m of cumulative positive altitude difference each day, with some potentially "annoying" steep slopes. :)

How to follow the route?

One week before the big day you receive GPX files of all the routes offered so you can personalize your adventure as you wish. You therefore use your GPS or your favorite smartphone app independently, the route is not marked.
Little known in the world of cycling, the Tripy GPS offered for rental to motorcyclists can do the job perfectly. also on a bike and can be quickly attached to the handlebars with a quick release. Although it may seem a little heavy and bulky for a bicycle, it offers great comfort and great precision when reading the roadbook.
Registering for the Rock'n'Trail commits you to respecting the Highway Code , the route using roads and paths open to traffic.

Practical aspects

Lunches are not included, everyone will do as they wish and their progress on the routes. Suggestions for local catering points will appear in the booklet which will be given to you at the start of the event. The 3 picnic baskets pack option is available upon registration.
You will find a special bike washing station on the bivouac.
In the event of a (major) mechanical problem, the organization can help you (interventions included in registration, excluding supplies and consumables).
